Does anyone know how long it would take for a refugee to get his green card after applying for it?

Especially if he resides in Houston, TX?

I know that if a refugee stays here for a year, he/she could apply for a green card. But does anyone know how long the process is for them to actually get it?
He's from Iraq.

anyone know the policies on green card and traveling outside US?

IM getting my greencard soon and want to take a vacation outside this country.... what are the procedures? do i need passport? do i need to contact anyone or do i just show the card and thats it?
