We have a rather long last name. My husband is from India and he had no idea about choosing a last name etc when he came here. So he chose a family name. I am also a green card holder. We live in NY.
We now have children and the name is over 13 letters long and is very difficult to pronounce. We'd like to shorten the name to the first 6 letters.
Is this possible or do we need to wait until we get our citizenship?
I am married to a US citizen and my 2-year conditional green card is going to expire next year in July. If I have to visit India for 4-5 months before filing for removal of conditions from my green card, can I do that? Or is it going to adversely affect my case? An immediate answer would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
