If an immigrant on conditional green card gets a divorce before filing for adjustment can he stay in the US?

I have a friend who brought her spouse to the US on a conditional green card using the I-130 application. They got a divorce before filing for the adjustment of status and it wasn't even 2years after his entry into the US. I can't write all the details here but it's a case of marriage fraud. My friend has sent in her statement to the USCIS explaining that it was a marriage fraud. Can the immigrant spouse stay in the US if he files himself?
